Behold

“Behold the lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world.” ~St. John 1:29

I read in an Oxford dictionary that behold means to see or observe a thing or a person, especially a remarkable or impressive one.

But in the context of this Scripture, that word stirred something so much deeper in me.

Be. This invokes participation and activity. It’s living.

Hold. This invokes longevity and lingering and pondering.

Behold. It is commanding, demands attention. Stop what you are doing and absorb what you are seeing into your very being.

Let it permeate you and become part of you.

Be a living part of what is holding your gaze.

In this case, not what, but Who.

What would it mean to stay in this moment long enough for Jesus to change your being?

That depends on who He is.

He is the lamb of God who takes away our sins.

Staying means becoming who He made us to be…without sin.

He came…as a baby…through a family completely devoted to the One True God…to show us how to live forever without sin.

Holy, holy, holy.

That sounds heavenly.

Behold.
