One Resolution

There is only one resolution I make every year.

And if I was allowed only one prayer for my family, my friends, and my community, it would be for this.

Silence with God.

Trade in your distractions and temptations, even some sleep if that is what it takes, for silence with Him.

Every day.

Work towards at least an hour.

Five minutes. Ten. Then fifteen.

Know that some days it will feel like nothing has happened. In this world of constant noise, resolve to view “nothing” as a gift and show up again tomorrow to unwrap it.

Time is truly our most precious commodity. It is continually being used on something, whether we feel in control of it or not. But the truth is, time is the only thing you have any control over, and you only have it right now. Whether you are free as a bird or locked in any kind of prison, you decide how to spend the minutes of your heart and mind.

This year, give your time to God first.

Give your heart, mind, and attention to Him in silence.

This is the internal shift that triggers the capability to change literally anything and everything else in your life.

You can’t get time back no matter how hard you try. Look around you. What has it earned so far? Stop spending it on less and start investing it with the only One who can redeem it for more.

One resolution changes it all.

“We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grow in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence…we need silence to be able to touch souls.”

~Saint Mother Teresa

  1. So so true!! One way I made this work is walking. Working from home since March, I decided to walk around my block a few times morning and night. It keeps me moving, and especially in the morning, I talk to God. An awesome way to start the day! …and my goal is to get 10,000 steps each day. I’m doing a pretty good job with it! I love being out in nature.
